Leonie Gebers was born in Karlsruhe on 19 February 1971, and has been a Permanent State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs since March 2018. She studied political science, sociology and economics at the University of Augsburg, graduating with a Master’s degree in 1997.
She then worked as a policy officer for the Managing Board of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and subsequently at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. In 2014, she became Head of Division, Political Coordination at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and in 2016 she became Head of Directorate for the Office of the Minister, Political Planning, before moving to the Federal Foreign Office in 2017 as Head of the Political Coordination Office. At the end of 2017, she returned to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as Head of Directorate for the Environment, Climate, Bio-Economy.
