Ambassador Silvia Espíndola

The ambassador is a career officer of the Ecuadorian foreign service. She has held posts in diplomatic missions of Ecuador to the UN, in New York, and the Ecuadorian embassy in Washington, D.C. She served as Undersecretary for Cooperation, Technical Assistance, and Support for Relatively Less Developed Countries of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI).

At the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she has held, among others, the following posts: Coordinator of the Working Group on the Zarumilla canal, during the negotiations of the peace agreements with Peru; member of the Ecuadorian Demarcation Commission, in 1999; on two occasions Pro-Secretary of the Consultative Board of Foreign Relations; Head of Office of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; Director of North America; Undersecretary for Cooperation; and Director of Human Rights and Peace. She holds a Master’s degree in international relations from Universidad Central del Ecuador.

She also holds a doctorate in jurisprudence and is a lawyer with her studies having specialised in public and social sciences at Universidad Central del Ecuador. Furthermore, she holds a diploma in human rights and international humanitarian law from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a diploma in South-South cooperation in Ibero-America from the Complutense University of Madrid.
